about

The fourth release on our label comes from Saint Friday.

A collaboration between cellist Emil Abramyan (Kingdoms, Other people) and bassist/vocalist Freddy Epstein, Saint Friday creates imaginative and eclectic dance music that reflects the musicians’ wide-ranging experiences in theater, classical, jazz, and dance music. The two musicians met at Manhattan School of Music in the early 2000’s, becoming close friends and eventually building a studio in Brooklyn to produce and explore different sounds.

This EP takes a more theatrical approach to dance music. Each song paints a new scene, creating a tone that reflects the artists’ curiosity and experience living in New York City.

“You said” featuring vocalist Jessie Shelton turns heartache into a provocative sonic journey, while “Hostage” waxes on the struggle of being lost in your own head.

Although this record leans more towards introspection, tracks like “Flashes” and “Keep on Dancin’” are playful and more dance-floor oriented. “Flashes” lays the scene for a funky alien invasion while “Keep on Dancin’” reminds us to be more present in our bodies.

“Westside” is a nostalgic vignette that fades away as quickly as it appears, and gives a nod to the creators’ shared love of hip-hop.

On “Dehumanization,” man meets machine, exploring an age-old question that plagues every artist: “is this really valid art?”
